Hello and welcome to Mrs. Barrera's class! We are a wonderful class of fantastic and unique students here at Chaparral. Not only do we work on academic tasks tailored to meet each student’s individual needs; we also focus on a lot on life skills, vocational skills, and social skills. Examples of this are cooking lessons, community based learning, vocational class chores, daily living coaching to enhance independence, class “store”, and many opportunities for social interaction with their general education peers. We also utilize technology in our class by use of various computer programs, switch activated software, web based programs, iPads with various educational apps, and access to the many laptops through our school wide portable computer labs. We also have the Buddy Up Club that is designed to have the general student population at Chaparral volunteer time with our students to enrich social skills and life experiences for all involved. Overall, our motto is to learn and have a lot of fun doing so! 
